Hi there, everyone. Welcome to my first ever blog.  I am wife of John, mother to Laura, Donna and Aron (in heaven).
I have been hairdressing for 41 years and back in 2010, I was offered a job with Yooralla as an additional assistant in the state kindergarten system. I was so blessed to be offered this job, as working with children has been a dream of mine since I was a teenager.
Yooralla appoints me to a kindergarten for a predetermined amount of time per week, based on the needs and requirements of a child with additional needs. The role is not a personal assistant for that child but an extra pair of hands in the group for all the children in the class. I am passionate about this job and the value of this special year for all children, before they embark on their school life.
The other thing that I spend my time doing is writing. I have been writing for, and about children for a very long time; however, it was about three years ago that my girls urged me to do more and take it more seriously. I’ve done a lot of workshops and a TAFE course and been writing my fingers off. I have also had to learn to use a computer, which is no easy task for an old girl.
About two and a half years ago I came to my eldest daughter, Laura with an idea that had been chewing at my brain for about six years. I had been collecting funny stories from children for some time and had written a few poems that sound like a child could have written them. I had this idea to combine these with photos to create a celebration of children at play in a coffee table or gift book.  We started immediately and our book “At Play,” was born.
It was completed and launched in July and has been received very well. We are now going about the task of getting it in to a few bookshops in the area.
I have lots more things to tell you a bit later on, so bye for now.
